What Can I Expect at My First Appointment?
During your first visit, we’ll talk about what brings you to therapy and what you hope to gain from the experience. We’ll discuss when you first began feeling this way, relevant personal and treatment history, what has helped in the past, and what may have made things more difficult.Together, we’ll identify specific goals for therapy and develop a plan for moving forward. We’ll also talk about how you’ll recognize your progress and how you’ll know when you’ve reached your goals and may no longer need therapy.
Do You Work With Children and/or Teenagers?
Yes. I have worked with children ages three through adolescence for more than 34 years, both in the school system and in private practice. I also have experience working with college students.
When working with children and adolescents, I believe in a team-based approach. When appropriate, and with the parent(s)’ involvement and discretion, I collaborate with parents and schools to provide consistent support and help create positive outcomes for the child or teen.
Do You Work With Adults?
Yes. I have over 10 years of experience working with clients across the lifespan, from age 19 through 70. I enjoy working with adults as they navigate life transitions, challenges, and opportunities for growth.

How Long Are Appointments?
Your first visit will be 60 minutes. Subsequent appointments may range from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the client’s age, therapeutic goals, and what will be most helpful for that particular session.
The length of each session will be determined collaboratively with you and/or your child. As a general guideline, appointments for children are typically around 45 minutes, while sessions for young children, particularly those of preschool age, are usually around 30 minutes.
My goal is to provide enough time to make each session meaningful while also considering your child’s developmental needs and attention span.
How Often Will I Attend Therapy?
The frequency of appointments will be determined collaboratively with you and/or your child based on your needs, goals, and circumstances.
When possible, weekly appointments can be helpful in building momentum and making progress toward therapeutic goals more quickly. As the client progresses, the frequency of sessions can be adjusted based on their needs and progress.
How Will I Know If Therapy Is Right for My Child?
It’s not always easy to know when a child might benefit from therapy. You may want to consider therapy if you or your child’s school have tried different strategies or supports, but you’re not seeing the progress you had hoped for.
Therapy may also be helpful when a child is having significant difficulty expressing or regulating their emotions or behavior, particularly when these challenges begin to interfere with their ability to:
· Interact comfortably and successfully with others
· Respond to support or guidance from adults
· Participate in school or everyday activities
· Learn and make progress
If you’re unsure whether therapy is the right fit for your child, I offer a free 15 minute consultation to talk about your concerns and determine together whether counseling may be helpful. You don’t have to have all the answers before reaching out.
